The Bart Sneakers

What do you think of Isabel Marant’s new spin on the retro Bart sneakers?  Like the Bekett and the Willow Sneakers, the Bart also has a concealed heel, slightly shorter- at around an inch. I really like the black ones!

Styling tip:Wear yours with boyfriend jeans and a leather jacket for a cool city girl look.

Happily Strappy

I am absolutely obsessed with these Gianvito Rossi ankle strap pumps! The reason why strappy pumps don’t suit me is because I don’t have legs for days and I’m quite petite. I always feel that the strap around the ankle cuts off the leg and makes it appear shorter. But it doesn’t mean these heels aren’t fabulous. If you’re a 5’3 and taller, these are the heels for you! Pair them with a tight midi skirt and bring on the sexy.

Andrea Wazen: Shoe Extrordinaire.

Inspired by the 17th century shoe silhouette and named after Louis XIV of France, the “Louis” shoe by Andrea Wazen has me absolutely hooked. The Louis shoe is powerful and masculine, yet extremely flattering, accentuating your ankles and shins. The design exudes strength and confidence as though with this pair, you can take over the world.

The shoes are whimsical, theatrical, and story-telling. Yes, I just used “story-telling” as an adjective. Every shoe in the Andrea Wazen collection tells a story, makes a gesture, and leaves you with a little bit of magic.

So far, she’s the best thing to happen to womens’ legs in the Middle East and I’m pretty sure this woman is going places. Andrea reminds me of a 1970’s Manolo Blahnik, paving the way to new shoe heights. Literally- did you see her 16’s?

The Chamber Gyld Design House opens in Amman

_MG_6810A Gyld Member & Founder of Chamber Gyld, Zeena AlAhmad was born on July 17, 1987 in Amman- Jordan. Her artisan talent was pursued through her studies in Studio Arts & Interior Design in Canada & the United Kingdom.

With a paintbrush in hand and from within the confines of a four walled studio emerged a line of exquisitely designed and passionately produced items that act as a ‘Gyld’ to every home. After launching her first furniture collection in 2012, Zeena has adhered her admiration & passion for art & design and ventured into creating a new concept of exhibition space; Chamber Gyld. The bespoke design house encompasses a number of different talents from the region and all around the world. I had the wonderful opportunity to sit down and talk to Zeena about this new venture and what she has in store for 2014.

You are known as the founder of Chamber Gyld, your furniture design line. I’m a huge fan. What inspired you to open the Chamber Gyld Design House and incorporate fashion and jewelry by other local and regional designers?

“Amman’s first bespoke design house, Chamber Gyld’s concept is to create a hub for talented designers to display & promote their distinguished statement pieces.  The aim is to highlight the power of collaboration & showcase the original talents, who produce exquisite work with excellent quality & finish. We bring Fresh, Avante-Garde & Aesthetic designs to your home & wardrobe from the world’s trendiest spots. Chamber Gyld Design House offers an eclectic mix of hand-made items, at which many are exclusively made for our Chamber! We aim to use our spacious high-ceiled window display, as an opportunity to bring out the unconventional vision in every designer.  Keeping true to the Design House that Chamber Gyld is, the window display will be an ever-changing attraction for people to look forward to each season. Chamber Gyld is not just a concept boutique; it is more of a dynamic space that seeks social interaction via events, competitions, pop-up shop concepts & social media collaborations.”

What are the local and regional brands we can find at the design house?

“Anknownymous, Basma Furniture, Zeena Chamber Gyld, Dina Gildeh AlMasara, Aennis Eunis, Raya Bisharat, Jad Ghandour, Nour Taher, Mohammad Tamimi, Chic Gyld, Vanina, Laith Qattan , Ola Medanat, Badr Adduja, Haya Awad, and more designers and artists are joining Chamber Gyld’s Design House.”

You have also designed your own line of handbags, or “Chic Gylds” to be precise, what inspired you to branch out into fashion and accessories?

“My passion towards art & design allows me to branch out of just my specialty in painting & furniture. I wouldn’t call myself a Handbag designer, because my Chic Gylds are funky, artistic & unique. The patterns & beading are especially handmade for this collection making each piece a statement accessory.”

Where do you draw your influences from when it comes to the design process?

“From my everyday surroundings, travels & patterns present everywhere; from nature to fashion.”

What’s in the pipeline for the Chamber Gyld brand in 2014?

“We’re looking forward to adding many more designers & artists to the Chamber Gyld team. We have a full schedule of trunk Shows, pop-up shop concepts & many more events. We’ll be having exciting window display competitions and hopefully in the near future an expansion to Chamber Gyld – Tea Room.”

How would you describe your own personal style?

“I consider my style to be classic/contemporary.”

How do you spend your free time when you’re not sketching or designing?

“Brainstorming Brainstorming & more brainstorming! Seriously- Design has become part of me!”

What is your favourite city and why?

“London & Beirut are by far my two favourite cities for their history, culture & art.”

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Shoe Line Sneak Peek!

Remember back in September when I broke the news (here) that Sarah Jessica Parker was launching her own shoe line. It was kept under wraps until now! Well,  only one image of one style has been released and it’s apparently inspired by the Manolos in the Sex and the City’s urban shoe myth episode. The “Diana”  is a black Mary Jane strappy single-sole stiletto crafted from patent leather and featuring a gold buckle.

‘I really wanted to bring back the single sole. I wanted to go back in time and be the 11-year-old that was looking in the window at Charles Jourdan and Maud Frizon and recall those great, gorgeous colours and the way people made shoes without thinking about anyone else, just doing what excites them,’ she explained.

The full collection will be available exclusively at Nordstorm in February and we can’t wait to see it!

What dreams are made of.

These beautiful crystal-embellished suede and velvet T-bar pumps by Valentino will take you from the fall straight through to Spring. The nude rosey colour is very versatile and the crystal embellishments add that extra glamour factor. They’re sure to make you the belle of the ball- well they better for a whopping £1,124.71.

I’ve got my eyes on you!

For the past few seasons, the Kenzo slingbacks have taken the fashion world by storm, becoming every fashionista’s shoe wardrobe must-have. This fall, Kenzo debuted this gorgeous pair of patent leather ceres slingbacks with a touch of gold detailing. They can be styled with anything from pants to skirts. The insoles are cushioned for comfort too, so you can do proper milage in these babies!

Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience Recap!

Ok, there’s no excuse to leave you hanging for as long as I did and I apologise for being completely MIA again! I was recovering from my Dubai weekend and had misplaced my camera download wire. But I’m back now and I’ve got all the deets from the Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience! In collaboration with Dubai Mall and sponsored by Emaar, Vogue Italia pulled off one of the craziest fashion nights Dubai has ever experienced;  It’s very own fashion’s night out from 6pm to 3am!

Dubai only does things bigger, better, and bolder what a wonderful evening was in store for us. I arrived at the mall at around 6 pm to attend a fashion show for 8 up and coming designers in order to celebrate emerging young talent. Two which included Razan Al-Azzouni and Mohammad Ashi of Ashi Studio.  Ashi is a good friend of mine whom I’ve known for years, and I was so proud to watch him debut one of the most beautiful collections he has ever created! In the front row sat one of the most influential women in the fashion world, the beautiful Franca Sozzani, editor-in-cheif of Vogue Italia.

But the real fun began at around 7:00, when Level Shoe District opened its doors for an exclusive grand event to mark the start of a three day spectacular in-store! Over 500 guests attended ‘Let The Shoe Begin’ including esteemed designers including: Nicholas Kirkwood, Alberto Moretti, Edgardo Osorio of Aquazurra, Paul Andrew and the designers behind Louis Leeman. Also attending the event were Dean and Dan, the twins behind DSquared, designer Phillip Plein, Bollywood favourite Shilpa Shetty, Chinese actress and supermodel Kathy Chow and Lebanese singer Maya Diab.

Fashion and entertainment elite came together to commemorate the luxury shoe destination, entertained by an exclusive DJ set by music and style sensation Solange Knowles, and enjoyed shoe themed treats at Level Shoe District’s chic eatery, Vogue Café.

A cast of leading talent from world-renowned West End musicals including Wicked!, Dirty Dancing, Oliver! and Singin’ In The Rain were brought together to perform in ‘Let The Shoe Begin,’ choreographed by Ashley Wallen, who has worked with international stars including Mariah Carey, Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, The Black Eyed Peas and Oprah Winfrey.  It was absolutely incredible to watch the show as it moved from space to space throughout the 96,000 square feet store.

During the event a limited edition collection of luxury charitable T-shirts were unveiled, which feature a sketch from world-renowned footwear designers represented in-store. The exclusive t-shirts are available to buy at Level Shoe District, with proceeds going to Dubai Cares.

My favourite part of the event was the little shoe photoshoot! After taking your photo and uploading it to Level’s instagram, the Level team printed out a picture for you to keep as a souvenir. I was wearing my Gianvito Rossi’s in suede and perspex.

The world’s iconic shoe concept store is home to over 300 international designer brands, more than 100 of which are exclusive to Level Shoe District. From understated elegance and contemporary chic to futuristic fantasy and haute design, Level Shoe District culminates in a one-of-a-kind shoe metropolis in the heart of Dubai. And w’re so happy to have been able to be a part of it!
